Iconik Player Changelog

2026-04-27

New Features

  • Image sequence support: Users can now open and review image sequences in the Iconik Player. Sequences publish back into Iconik with a web proxy generated automatically; annotations, comments, and markups are preserved. Sync review sessions allow a viewer on the Iconik web proxy and a viewer in the Iconik Player to work together in real time on the same playhead.
  • Multi-channel audio: The Iconik Player now supports up to 16 discrete audio channels, each independently controllable with mute, solo, pan, volume adjustment, and metering.
  • Notifications panel: A bell icon in the top right opens a chronological feed of workspace activity, including comments on assets and transcode job completions. A red badge on the icon displays the unread count.
  • Original/proxy switching: Users can switch between the original file and its proxy on the fly during playback in the Iconik Player.
  • Multi-layer EXR support: The Iconik Player now correctly loads and displays multi-layer EXR files, with access to individual layers for review.
  • Premultiplied alpha: Users can now view assets with premultiplied alpha applied, ensuring correct compositing display directly in the Player.
  • Checkerboard background: Users can now enable a checkerboard background in the Player to visualise transparency in assets with an alpha channel.

New Features

  • OpenColorIO (OCIO) support: Iconik now supports OCIO color management for accurate color representation across your review workflow.
  • Versions in asset and playlist shares: Users can switch between versions directly in a share, with sync support ensuring all participants see the same version simultaneously.
  • AV1, MKV, VP8, and VP9 support: Iconik now plays back assets in these formats natively.
  • Participants dialog: Users can now view and manage session participants directly from the player.
  • Copy metadata to clipboard: Users can copy some or all media metadata directly to the clipboard for use outside Iconik.

Other Changes

  • Updated macOS application icon.
  • Playlist shares now display thumbnails in the items column, giving users a visual preview before opening.
  • Share email prompt now appears the first time a user annotates, comments, or joins a sync session — rather than upfront — reducing friction for new share recipients.

Bug Fixes

  • Maintains reliable connection for standard users.
  • Keeps the sync button visible and accessible after disconnection and reconnection events.
  • Delivers consistent playback speed across desktop and web.
  • Preserves correct access behavior for users without the web_can_download_original permission.
