This guide walks through connecting iconik to CuttingRoom so users can launch and edit CuttingRoom projects directly from iconik assets.
Setup happens in two places: CuttingRoom (creating the integration, configuring login) and iconik (pointing it at your CuttingRoom tenant).
Part 1: Configure CuttingRoom
Step 1 — Set up Token Exchange
Under Settings, in the General Section, and the Identity Provider Configuration, open the Token Exchange tab. Enter the following URLs exactly as shown:
- Token Exchange URL:
https://app.iconik.io/API/auth/v1/auth/embed/token/exchange/ - Token Refresh URL:
https://app.iconik.io/API/auth/v1/refresh/token/
Under Claims Mapping, set:
- Email:
email - First Name:
first_name - Last Name:
last_name
Step 2 — Configure user provisioning (optional)
Go to the Settings tab under the same Identity Provider Configuration section. If you want CuttingRoom to automatically create user accounts on first login, enable Create users on login and assign the default role(s) you want new users to get (e.g. editor).
NOTE: Currently, this will overwrite the users roles if it already exists. So do not log in with an admin users if you have set the default role to Editor and not mapped the admin group below, then the user will lose the admin role
If you leave this off, a user must already exist in CuttingRoom with the same email address as their iconik account before they can log in.
Step 3 — Create the iconik integration
In CuttingRoom, create a new iconik integration (e.g. "Iconik - Prod"). Set your Iconik Environment, Preferred Source, and the Storages you want CuttingRoom to use.
If you plan to enable Enable Distribution, you'll need to log in once from CuttingRoom as an admin so you can select the destination storage — this step won't complete correctly without that one-time login.
Also check Sign in through the host application
Step 4 — Add iconik.io to the Content Security Policy
Under the General section, and Integration. Add *.iconik.io to the Content Security Policy, this is to allow the iconik UI to load the integration embedded.
Part 2: Configure iconik
Step 5 — Point iconik at your CuttingRoom tenant
In iconik, go to Admin → System Settings → CuttingRoom and enter your CuttingRoom URL (e.g. https://yourtenant.us1.cuttingroom.com). Click Update.
Leaving this field empty disables CuttingRoom for everyone on the domain.
Now the setup is done, and you should be able to use CuttingRoom from inside iconik.
Set up roles for non admins to access the panel
Roles needed for the different actions are described in the table below. Note that a Power user is needed to get those roles.
| Feature | Where | Role needed |
|---|---|---|
| Play a CuttingRoom project | Asset page of a CuttingRoom project | can_read_cuttingroom or can_write_cuttingroom |
| Edit a CuttingRoom project (the Play / Edit toggle) | Asset page of a CuttingRoom project | can_write_cuttingroom |
| Create CuttingRoom Project | Right-click menu on assets | can_write_cuttingroom |
| Open in panel | Right-click menu, when exactly one CuttingRoom project is selected | can_write_cuttingroom |
| The CuttingRoom Project panel | Search, Favourites and Collection pages | can_write_cuttingroom |
| CuttingRoom settings (setting the CuttingRoom URL) | Admin → Site settings → Preferences → CuttingRoom | Owner only |
Open the CuttingRoom panel
From the iconik Search page, open the CuttingRoom panel from the left-hand sidebar. From here you can create a new CuttingRoom project or open an existing one from its context menu.
Open the editor from an asset
Once an asset has an associated CuttingRoom project, you can jump straight into the CuttingRoom editor from that asset's page in iconik — no need to go back through the panel.
